No Christmas Treecycling this Festive Season

Unfortunately South Somerset District Council is unable to provide Christmas Treecycling this year as workload won’t allow for the loss of the staff or wood chippers following the loss of production during the Covid-19 lockdown period.

Alternatively, they have liaised with Somerset Waste Partnership (SWP) to provide the following advice:

Where possible, SWP and SSDC would like to encourage people to consider replanting trees, home composting or adding them to a corner of the garden as a wild habitat.

Where that’s not possible, anyone subscribing to the SWP Garden Waste Service can leave their tree out next to their garden waste bin for collection. The usual restrictions apply – branches should be less than 15cm or less in width. Anyone not subscribing to the service can take trees to any of the county’s 16 recycling sites https://www.somersetwaste.gov.uk/recycling/centres/  for the garden waste skips.

Composted trees – part of the 50% of your recycling that stays in Somerset and 90% that stays in the UK – become Revive soil conditioner sold at recycling sites. Other collection points may be available at the time, and together, SSDC and SWP will endeavour to publicise these where possible.

SSDC apologise for any disappointment this may cause and hope to be able to have the service back up and running next year, thank you for your understanding.
